Buying Guide
Consumers purchase vehicle covers for various reasons, so we established an all inclusive list of protection and performance factors to consider as your determine which car cover is right for you. As you shop our car cover assortment, you will find ratings for these factors in relation to the material's performance abilities. We encourage you to use these ratings as a guide in determining which car cover meets your vehicle's protection needs.
| Symbol | Description |
---
UV Resistance - Unfortunately, as much as we enjoy the sun, it has very damaging effects on a vehicle’s exterior and interior! Be sure your car cover has nearly 100% UV blocking characteristics so it can act as sun block for the vehicle.
Heat Resistance - Better car covers can reduce the inside temperature of your vehicle by almost 30 degrees! Keep in mind that lighter colored car covers reflect heat from the sun better than darker or brighter colors.
Fade Resistance - As materials are exposed to intense light and heat the more likely fading and deterioration will occur. As you shop around, you will want to consider the environment your car cover will be in and be sure to select a material with adequate fade resistance.
Rain - If you are looking for an outdoor car cover, you will certainly want it to be moisture-resistant. Generally, the better the outdoor cover, the higher moisture-resistance it has. But keep in mind that even the best auto covers are not waterproof and will allow water to penetrate them under certain circumstances like driving rain storms.
Snow – Live in an area with regular snowfall? Then you are looking for a car cover that will stand up to snow and keep as much moisture out as possible. Depending on the amount of snowfall, moisture may make its way through even the best car covers
Breathability - You do not want anything to do with a truck cover that does not breathe moisture, condensation and heat out from underneath it. The more easily it can do this, the better. Use caution with anyone that tells you they have a “waterproof” cover. Those types of fabrics don’t breathe and will trap moisture underneath them, causing surface damage.
Dirt & Dust - Dirt, dust and pollen can penetrate through some auto covers and find their way to the painted finish of a vehicle and cause fine scratches. Be sure the car cover material you select has the ability to block out Mother Nature’s pollutants, whether inside or outdoors.
Softness - The softness of a car cover affects how it will react to the painted finish of a vehicle. The better auto cover materials feature soft qualities that will protect these surfaces.
Ding & Scratch - If this is one of your requirements, look for a thicker car cover that has the padding necessary to protect against the vehicle being bumped or hit with falling debris. This is also important if there is a possibility of animals camping out on the hood of your vehicle.
Wind Stability - Regardless of how strong the elastic hem is on a car cover, there will be those windy times that challenge even the best! Sewn in loops will come in handy to tie the car cover down during those windy days or for extended periods of time the car will be covered.
Mold - Be sure the car cover you choose has been treated to minimize the possibility of mold or mildew setting in.
All-Weather - These natural hazards can do a number on a vehicle’s finish. You will want a carcover that has the ability to block these out and keep them from penetrating through to the surface of your vehicle.
Light/Compact - Light-weight truck covers are easier to put on and take off. If you plan to use your cover regularly, you may want a product that is easy to handle, faster to roll or fold up and takes up less storage space in your trunk or other storage space. *Please note, heavier auto covers can be an advantage as they will offer more protection against dings and scratches over an extended period of time.
Security - Believe it or not, a car cover acts as a deterrent to a would-be car thief, because their goal is to get in and get out as quickly as possible. Add the additional security feature of our cable lock kit and they’ll go find something easier and faster to drive off in!
